August 2018 Wrap Up

Life Update 

• There’s not much to tell, I have basically been preparing to move to Spain for a year on the 20th of September. So there’s being lots of paperwork, packing my apartment, and spending time with friends and family during August.
• The only other thing is that I’m hosting the #LatinxBookBingo and that had been so well receive, especially on twitter,  which has made me really happy and it has made the whole experience feel extremely especial.

What I Read 

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang (4,3 stars): I really enjoyed this book, it has a soft male love interest, which is rare in romance, it has #ownvoices autistic rep, there’s a lot of chemestry between the two main characters and the book is really steamy and there’s a lot of sex scenes, which I like, but if it’s not your thing be aware.

The Pros of Cons by Alison Cherry, Lindsay Ribar & Michelle Schusterman (4,3 stars): I loved this book, I loved all three main characters, I loved the female friendship and I loved the premise of the three conventions. Also, there’s two really cute romances, there’s lesbian rep, non binary rep, mexican rep and I think there were well handled.

Mirage by Somaiya Daud (4,3 stars): I loved the two main female charaters in this one and I loved the fact that it’s a Moroccan inspired fantasy. Here’s my review!

Useless Magic by Florence Welch  (3 stars): This is basically a book with the lyrics to a bunch of Florence + The Machine songs, there’s a few doodles and phrases that are added, but not much of this is new. Nonetheless, I listen to all the songs as I read so I had a good time.

Quiet Girl in a Noisy World by Debbie Tung (3,5 stars): this was relatable for me as an introvert, it was funny and it was a quick read.

Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie (3,6 stars): This is the first Hercules Poirot book I have read in which he’s trying to solve a case from the past and I still enjoyed it but it didn’t blow my mind. Honestly, I have started to notice the repetitive elements that Agatha Christie uses in her novels, so the books are losing a bit of their appeal.

Dr. Strange Beard by Penny Reid (3.6 stars): I liked the two main characters and I liked he fact that they used to be  best friends but haven’t spoken in years, the plot was a bit predictable but not entirely, I didn’t like the time jump between the last book and this, and I didn’t like that we saw so little of the rest of the Winstons.

The Love Song of Sawyer Bell by Avon Gale (3,2 stars): The plot of this was really predictable,I wasn’t completely sold on the romance, I didn’t really felt the chemestry between the characters, but it was still fun to see a cute f/f romance.

The Chase by Elle Kennedy (3,4 stars): I liked the chemestry between the characters nad I liked the way in which the relatioship developed. Also,  I really liked the female friendship in this and the side characters.

Sincerely, Carter by Whitney G. (3,4 stars): Best friends to lovers is my favorite trope, so I enjoyed that aspect of this book, the conflict at the end was a bit dumb and it relied on miscommunication, which I didn’t like, but overall, it was a fun read.

Sincerely, Arizona by Whitney G. (3 stars): This was just an epilogue for Sincerely, Carter. It was cute, but that was it.

After the Kiss by Lauren Layne (3,6 stars): This is like anothe version of How to Lose a Guy in 10 days and it was actually really fun to read. The main characters are very different but they have a lot of chemestry; the male main characters is the serious and a bit dominant kind of guy, but it wasn’t excesive, and the female main character, whom I liked a lot, is charismatic and nice.

Love The One You’re With by Lauren Layne (3,8 stars): This book has an amazing love interest, he is flirty and a bit cocky, but he is a nice guy from beginning to end. I also liked the female main character and how heartbreak was shown in the story.  I enjoyed the battle of the sexes aspect of the story and the chemestry between the characters.

Just One Night by Lauren Layne (3,5 stars): This is a friends to lovers story, but the actions and conversations of the two main characters didn’t show them to be as good friends as it was being said they were. That definetely lowered my enjoyment of the story, just like the fact that I didn’t like the male main character that much. However, I did like the female main character.

The Trouble With Love by Lauren Layne (3,8 stars): I really liked both main characters in this book, I could relate a lot to the main female character, who was an introvert and kind of quiet and serious, I liked the fact that they had history and there was all the mystery surrounding their failed engagement 7 years before.

Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne (3,8 stars): I loved that this story revolves around two sportwriters and it touches a bit on how difficult it is to be a woman in the sport industry. I really liked both of the main characters. The main problem I had with this is that the female mc had self-esteem issues and she could go more than a couple pages without mentioning that she wasn’t pretty or sexy or desirable, and it definitely got a bit repetitive.
